8 premiered on Netflix, today, 19 June 2020, and serves as the first original South African horror film on the streaming platform. The Harold Hölscher film centres around a mysterious local outcast, Lazarus, played by Tshamano Sebe, whose demonic past poses a threat to a family.
The family comprises William Ziel, played by Garth Breyetenbach, who returns to an inherited farmhouse with his wife, Sarah, played by Inge Beckmann, and their adopted niece, Mary, played by Keita Luna.
Upon their arrival, strange occurrences continuously take place in the farmhouse, only for it to be linked to Lazarus. The movie, also dubbed “The Soul Collector,” sees Lazarus’ insatiable hunger for the human soul becoming the main motivation behind his destructive behaviour. Viewers have already expressed excitement at the movie’s premiere, with many claiming that the production value is of a global standard.
