AKA advocates for Fikile Mbalula’s leadership

Published on

AKA has sparked controversy on social media for, once again, commenting on the current political climate of South Africa, which some have dismissed as invalid because he previously endorsed the ANC.

AKA’s opinions on South African politics have consistently led to backlash on social media, due to the fact that he previously endorsed the African National Congress (ANC) during the 2019 elections. During the coronavirus pandemic, AKA has revoked many of his sentiments, claiming that the ANC has done a poor job at protecting the country and the entertainment industry.

Aside from lambasting the political party, AKA has remained loyal to Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, which some assume is because he had appeared on his SABC 1 show, The Braai Show With AKA. On Saturday, 16 January 2021, the rapper tweeted “My view on Mbalula is that he is one of the best leaders we’ve ever had. What I like most about him is that he is one of the few people in positions of power that you can actually interact with on social media.”

When asked why he has not been consistent in his support for the ANC, AKA stated, “It’s okay to believe in someone and something and then change your mind when it doesn’t live up to your expectations. It happens.”
