The #KeepTheArtsPure open letter started gaining traction on Monday, 11 November 2019, after it was co-signed by popular house duo, Black Motion, followed by rapper, AKA. The open letter asks the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture to address several issues, including why international organisations are easily funded with the state’s money to host events, when the same privilege isn’t afforded to local artists and companies. The minister has yet to respond.
