AKA set to continue fight for The Braai Show’s ownership

Published on

AKA has come forward to affirm that he will continue to fight to have The Braai Show with Cass cancelled, after allegedly being duped into retracting his gag order.

Kiernan “AKA” Forbes took to Twitter on Wednesday, 8 September 2021, to share a statement on the airing of The Braai Show with Cass. The statement was released in light of the announcement that the second season of the show will commence as scheduled. This is despite initial indications that AKA had filed for the show to not air and production to be halted. AKA’s statement served to provide context on the events which led to the show airing as initially scheduled.

In the statement, AKA first asserted that the show’s ownership deal was split between himself and MakhuduCom. He then suggested that following the passing of his customary wife, Anele “Nelli” Tembe, which resulted in him opting to take time out to heal from the loss, MakhuduCom duped him by reaching out to Cassper Nyovest to take over the show without consulting him. This is the reason that he did not find out about the production of the show until Nyovest made the announcement.

Moreover, he consented that he did file papers to have the show halted, however, he retracted them after the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) called for a meeting to reach an amicable agreement. He further stated, “However, as soon as the interdict was withdrawn and during the meeting of 25 August 2021, it became clear to my legal representatives that our good faith was being exploited for tactical purposes by MakhuduCom.”

In light of the aforementioned, the statement concluded by affirming his intention of taking MakhuduCom to court over the deal between them. This is despite the fact that he concluded the statement by writing, “I wish continual success for The Braai Show and host of season two. After all is said and done, it’s just business.”
