Akon and Kedar Massenburg launch Akonik Label Group

World-renowned singer and producer Akon and former Motown CEO, Kedar Masseburg, took to social media on Tuesday, 4 June 2019, to announce their joint production house, Akonik Label Group.

Akon made the announcement on social media, sharing a short clip of both himself and Massenburg on a three-way split screen. The video shows both men talking with each other, as well as shots of them posing individually. The clip also hears a hip-hop instrumental, with Akon harmonizing with the beat. The official Instagram for Akonik Label Group has been active since February 2019, with several posts indicating collaborations with various artists such as Erykah Badu, Joi, Anuel AA and Farruko.

According to an official press release published on Tuesday, 4 June 2019, the Akonik Label Group will house four distinct labels and has secreted global distribution with BMG. The four labels will sign and promote talent in North and South America, Europe and various other countries. The labels comprise Akonik, which will focus on North America and Europe, Akonda, which will take charge of Afro Beats talent, Ke Lo Ke, which includes Mexico and Puerto Rico and finally, Jamakon, which will centre around developing Caribbean artists.

The press release announcing the launch of the Akonik Label Group further described the venture as, “the first time an artist has established a multi-national, multi-cultural label group”.

The Akonik Label Group plans to release its first wave of singles and music video between June and July 2019.
