Anuel AA wins Best New Artist at 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Puerto Rican rapper and singer Anuel AA was named the Best New Artist of the Year at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards, held on Friday, 26 April 2019.

Born Emmanuel Santiago Gazmey, Anuel AA was nominated alongside other artists like Karol G, Natti Natasha and Raymix.

The artist took to Instagram with a message to his haters that reads, “They say I’m a criminal, out there people are what they talk about!!!!!!!!!! For me to speak, to comment that nobody owes me anything!!!!! I give thanks to God because he brought me here!!!!!”

Anuel AA is a unique artist that is considered a pioneer of the Latin trap scene. He is known for his ability to blend reggaeton and trap styles seamlessly, always resulting in confident delivery and enjoyable music.

He rose to fame by gaining millions of views on his earlier work, leading him to be signed by Rick Ross in the Latin sector of the Maybach Music Group. He cemented his place as a force to be reckoned with when he released his debut album Real Hasta La Muerte, which earned him a number one spot on the Top Latin Albums chart and opened with 11,000 equivalent album units. This was the fifth-highest sales week for a Latin album in 2018. He has an impressive repertoire of features, working with artists like Meek Mill, Ozuna and Dummy Boy.

Anuel AA is currently on his joint Culpables tour with Karol G, the tour has taken the pair across South America and Mexico. Their last show is set to take place in Ecuador on Friday, 31 May 2019.
