South Africa has two CHANEL stores, however, the stores sell cosmetics, fragrances and accessories and not CHANEL clothing and apparel.
Johannesburg and Cape Town, as the epicentres of South Africa’s opulence and affluence, are the two cities in the country which boast having some of the international luxury brands’ physical stores. For Cape Town, the V&A Waterfront is the go-to local spot to find all the luxury brands and designer stores, while Johannesburg’s Sandton City and the Diamond Walk are synonymous with luxury and affluence.
In reference to the presence of a physical CHANEL outlet, the two aforementioned areas mark the only places in South Africa that have physical CHANEL stores. The V&A Waterfront confirmed the aforementioned through its website, which highlights that the mall was the first one to have a CHANEL store.
According to its website, “The first CHANEL Fragrance & Beauty Boutique in South Africa is located at Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. The 61 sqm space will feature the first standalone pop-up concept for South Africa. It will expand to 106sqm in 2021. Come and immerse yourself in exclusive beauty creations to CHANEL Boutiques, as well as the complete collection of CHANEL skincare, makeup and fragrance. Meet the team of experts who will create the ultimate personalised beauty experience.”
Moreover, Sandton City also confirmed the availability of a CHANEL outlet by writing, “Step inside the CHANEL Beauty universe. An exclusive dreamscape of makeup, skincare and iconic fragrances inspired by a legendary founder, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel.”
However, as indicated by the description of the two available outlets, both outlets do not offer CHANEL clothing and apparel, as they only venture into beauty, skincare and accessories. Mostly, CHANEL clothing items and luxury bags are sold in boutiques which have the items imported to the country, along with other luxury designer brands.
