SABC 3’s popular magazine show, Top Billing, will broadcast its final episode this Saturday, 19 October 2019, and will feature an insert on former Miss South Africa and businesswoman, Basetsana Kumalo.

In a lengthy and heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, 17 October 2019, Basetsana Kumalo confirmed news of the show’s unexpected ending. Basetsana, who is affectionally known as Bassie, is a former host of the show and co-owner of Tswelopele Productions, the current production company behind Top Billing.

“After a monumental journey, SABC 3’s flagship magazine show, Top Billing, is coming to an end. The series has continuously brought viewers a taste of the good life by showcasing some of South Africa’s grandest homes, explored a magnitude of breath-taking countries, brought South Africans closer to some of the biggest stars around the world, hung out with our local celebrities and witnessed many of them say ‘I Do,’” she wrote.

In the final episode, Bassie will detail her upbringing and journey to where she is today. Having recently released her memoir, Bassie: My Journey of Hope, the businesswoman will also discuss the monumental feat, whilst welcoming viewers into her home and allowing the public to see her in a family environment.

Bassie concluded the caption to the post by writing, “Every show has a beginning and an end and reaching a quarter of a century for any production is one great feat. Thank you, South Africa, for allowing us [into] your homes for 25 years. Sending the love right back. Join me and my family for the last episode on Saturday at 18:00.”

Top Billing is the longest-running entertainment and lifestyle television programme in South Africa and has, over the years, been hosted by the likes of Bonang Matheba, Jeannie D, Lorna Maseko, Maps Maponyane, Ayanda Thabethe and the late Simba Mhere, just to name a few.

Top Billing will air its last episode on Saturday, 19 October 2019, at 18:00 on SABC 3.

The privilege of producing a show that has captivated South Africans and international audiences is one that warms my heart every day – especially when I think of my very first day as a young presenter on Top Billing. We are very grateful to the SABC for the opportunities the show has given us to discover new talent and to grow new stars while celebrating excellence, recognising achievements and contributing to a positive vision of South Africa and its people. We celebrate the legacy that Top Billing has created and the strength of the brand as a household name that defines the best of the good life and making dreams come true.” I am truly proud of the role Top Billing has played and the impact it has made on the South African entertainment space.
