Better Call Saul season 6: Updated details

Better Call Saul is set to end with the upcoming season 6 premiere in April 2022, and below we share all we know about the series finale.

Better Call Saul is the 2015 Breaking Bad prequel which, though it had an initially tentative reception, has since affirmed its popularity with recent seasons.

Therefore, there is some sense of fanfare in light of the upcoming sixth season being the conclusion of the series.

The release date for the finale’s first half is already confirmed as Tuesday, 18 April 2022, when AMC will air the first six episodes of season six.

Moreover, the release of part one of season six coincides with the new availability of the series’ fifth season on Netflix, following two years since the show’s real-time run on television.

What is Better Call Saul?

Better Call Saul is the AMC expansion of its successful Breaking Bad franchise. The series is the prequel to the 2008 iconic series, and it premiered on AMC in 2015, two years after the end of Breaking Bad.

The spin-off sees Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gilligan, work with Peter Gould to develop the series which is premised as, “The trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill in the time before he established his strip-mall law office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.”

The title character is played by acclaimed actor, Bob Odenkirk, who earned an Emmy in 2017 for his performance as Saul.

Better Call Saul season 6: Updated details below

Prior to the availability of the sixth season of Better Call Saul, it was already confirmed that the season would mark the conclusion of the series.

However, even with that information, fans of the show had to wait over two years for the release of the series finale season, as season five aired on AMC between February 2020 and April 2020.

The delay can be attributed to the pandemic and the effects it had on the film and television industry’s production and rollout of new content.

In March 2022, Better Call Saul released the trailer for its sixth and final season. The trailer, besides teasing what to expect in the upcoming season, also revealed the release date.

It confirmed that season six, part one is set to start airing on AMC on Tuesday, 18 April 2022 and to end on Monday, 23 May 2022.

Why is Better Call Saul season 5 not available on Netflix?

Fans of the espionage crime series, Better Call Saul, who watch it via Netflix in the United States, could not watch the fifth season of the show in the past two years.

This is because the season aired on AMC in 2020, and it was only recently confirmed that the season will now be available on Netflix from 4 April 2022.

It seems that this is due to the agreement between the channel and the paid-subscription video-on-demand platform.

Therefore, it is believed that season six will have the same rollout. For Netflix US users, Better Call Saul will be made available from spring or early summer of 2023.

What to expect from Better Call Saul season 6

As Better Call Saul counts down to the double-bill premiere of season six episode one and two on Tuesday, 18 April 2022, the show shared a summary of all that you might have missed in the past five seasons through a post on Instagram.

Moreover, AMC has also shared a synopsis giving an overview of season six, which states:

Better Call Sauls final season concludes the complicated journey and transformation of its compromised hero, Jimmy McGill, into criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. From the cartel to the courthouse, from Albuquerque to Omaha, season six tracks Jimmy, Saul and Gene as well as Jimmy’s complex relationship with Kim, who is in the midst of her own existential crisis.”

Why is Better Call Saul season 6 in two parts?

When Better Call Saul season six was confirmed to be the series finale, it was also confirmed that it would be released in two parts comprising six episodes each.

This is not a new trend by AMC for the end of hit shows on the channel, as previous shows that also had a two-part season finale include Mad Men and The Walking Dead.

The latest series to follow the trend is the Netflix original series, Ozark, with its current final season divided into two seven-episode parts. The idea is to give the show’s producers the chance to concisely conclude their story.

Final thoughts

Better Call Saul is the spin-off prequel to the hit AMC original series, Breaking Bad.

Initially a slow burn, through its placement on Netflix, the show ensured that the latest seasons of the series contributed to one of the most anticipated series finales as the series is set to air its sixth and final season.

The first six episodes of the series season finale are set to air in April 2022, and the second part of season six will air later, in July 2022. Most hotly anticipated is the fate of Kim, who did not appear in Breaking Bad with Jimmy.
