Miss South Africa 2020 hopeful, Bianca Schoombee, has withdrawn her entry for the beauty pageant, according to a statement by her modelling agency, SYNC Models, after facing backlash for her tweets from 2014.

Bianca Schoombee’s tweets from 2014, which resurfaced on social media on the evening of Tuesday, 19 May 2020, have led to the Miss South Africa hopeful withdrawing her entry for the beauty pageant. This is according to her modelling agency, SYNC Models’ statement issued on Wednesday, 20 May 2020.

The modelling agency faced backlash for its initial statement that suggested that South Africa should not hold Bianca to tweets from six years ago. The tweets were subsequently deleted, followed by a statement announcing Bianca’s withdrawal from the pageant.

Explaining the agency’s position, SYNC Models owner, Alessandrio Bergman, stated, “We plead with those that Bianca Schoombee’s teenage tweets offended and we ask that you find it within your hearts to forgive the views of a teenager.”
