Black Coffee challenged The SAMAs to a first by imploring the organisation to add Master KG’s Jerusalema, featuring Nomcebo Zikode, to the Record Of The Year category, following criticism of it not being nominated.

Black Coffee took to Twitter and challenged The South African Music Awards (SAMAs) to a first with Master KG’s hit single, Jerusalema, featuring Nomcebo Zikode, on Wednesday, 29 July 2020. The acclaimed producer challenged The SAMAs to add the global smash hit to the Record Of The Year nominees, claiming that the organisation can do so according to the rules of the music awards.

The awards ceremony has faced much backlash and loss of confidence since the single did not earn a nomination, despite being submitted for consideration. Since the announcement of the nominees, the single has gained global traction, with the music video breaking the 50 million views mark on YouTube. It is also reportedly the fourth biggest song in the world currently.
