Bonang Matheba clarifies that she is not part of the 987 Woman campaign

After it was reported that media personality, Bonang Matheba. would be a part of Power FM’s 987 Woman’s campaign, the star has taken to social media to dispel those rumours.

On Friday, 26 July 2019, Bonang Matheba made headlines after it was announced that she would be a part of Power FM’s annual 987 Woman Campaign. She was one of many other notable names such as Sho Madjozi, Leanne Manas, Lillian Dube, Nambitha Mpumlwana and Naledi Chirwa. However, with the campaign’s programming already taking place, a fan asked Bonang Matheba when  she would be on air, to which the star replied by saying she would not.

In the exchange that took place on Tuesday, 6 August 2019, the fan asked, “Hi [favourite], still on the 987 Woman line up for Power this week?” Bonang Matheba wasted no time setting the record straight by stating, “Was never scheduled. They lied.”

Many of the comments that followed were from fans that were in disbelief at the news and believed that the station had used Bonang Matheba’s name as click bait. A fan wrote, “My [God] that is so flawed, so disappointing. Talk about Bonang Brand Leverage Abuse. Unacceptable, [they] must pay for using your name B*.”

However, other followers were just disappointed that they would not get to hear Bonang Matheba on radio this week. It has been over two years since fans have had the House Of BNG creator host a radio show. The last time was in 2017 as the host of Metro FM’s The Front Row.

A follower shared in the communal disappointment writing, “So we waited for nothing. Tuned in since 06:00.”
