Busiswa “humbled” by Best Female Artist win at Soundcity MVP Festival

The singer beat out prominent artists Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage to win the award at a ceremony in Lagos.

Gqom artist, Busiswa Gqulu, took to Instagram on Tuesday, 8 January 2019, to express her gratitude for winning the ’Best Female Artist’ award at the Soundcity MVP Festival in Lagos, Nigeria.

The singer and poet also took the opportunity to brush off any negativity regarding her success. She joked that it would be easier to just insult the people who bully her but said it would be better to stick to kind words. “In order not to sound rude I’ll just say, ‘I’m humbled’,” the singer said in the Instagram post.

She won the award beating out prominent artists Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade. Rapper AKA also represented South Africa well, winning the award for ‘Best African Hip-Hop’. Busiswa has been especially popular in the past few years being producing hits like Ngoku, Banomoya by Prince Kaybee on which she is featured, as well as Midnight Starring by DJ Maphorisa.

Her latest album, ‘Summer Life’ was released on Friday, 9 November 2018. The ten-track album features LaSoulMates, Rude Boyz, Uhuru, Zingah, Dladla Mshunqisi, Da Fresh, Athi, Cruel Boyz and KayGee The Vibe. The album is supported by the title track featuring DJ Buckz and Gorna.
