Candice Modiselle has affirmed her belief in the allegations made by Lorraine Moropa against her former Lithapo co-star, Mangaliso Ngema, in light of the reported legal action against her.
Candice Modiselle took to Twitter on Tuesday, 15 June 2021, to assert her support and continued belief in Lorraine Moropa. Moropa made headlines earlier in the year when it was revealed that she had filed a formal complaint against veteran actor and co-star, Mangaliso Ngema. Moropa claimed that she experienced sexual harassment by Ngema. Her allegations prompted other actors with similar experiences to come forward with their own stories.
Ngema was subsequently dismissed from the production, however, the actor maintained his innocence. When it was announced that he is set to return to screens on the second season of Family Secrets, some members of the public questioned the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) actual stance on the matter.
In light of the backlash, Ngema reportedly stepped down from Family Secrets. Moreover, he is believed to have taken legal action against the production house and Moropa, alleging defamation of character. To show her support, Modiselle stated, “More than one woman came forward, attesting to these very allegations he now claims as ‘defamation.’” Rhetorically adding, “Did he not acknowledge his behaviour and apologise?! I stand with her. I believe her. The violation and intimidation of women on set cannot continue.”
