Candy Tsamandebele has returned to music with the release of her new single, Ekaya, featuring Nhlanhla Nciza.
Candy Tsamandebele took to Instagram on Friday, 2 July 2021, to confirm the availability of her new single, Ekaya, featuring Nhlanhla Nciza. The musician touted the single as her return to music. This is despite having already released a single titled Mmabhula, featuring DJ Call Me. Moreover, the current singles follow the release of her 2020 studio album, Still Here. All the songs released this year are independent of Still Here, which would explain why the musician would consider the release of her new single as a return to music.
The mid-tempo single has been described as, “The afro-soul song which is a sweet and soothing sing along tune is a mix of isiZulu and XiTsonga languages, giving us the best of both worlds and the merge that takes such through a journey of that warm and fuzzy feeling. Ekaya which means home in Xitsonga was produced by Dr Frank who has been working closely with Candy on her sound. He previously produced Candy’s hit song, Siku Ne Siku.”
Despite the tempo and mood of the song, Tsamandebele opted for a colourful and pastel, colour-blocking and retro aesthetic for the single’s cover art. It references her two previous artworks for the aforementioned releases.
The single is available for purchase on Apple Music.
