Cardi B, Drake and Beyoncé lead 2019 BET Awards nominations

The full list of nominations for the 2019 BET Awards were announced on Friday, 17 May 2019, reflecting a star-studded line-up of nominees including Cardi B, Drake, Beyoncé and Travis Scott.

The BET Awards are set for Sunday, 23 June 2019 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Cardi B leads the way with seven nominations, followed closely by Drake with five nominations and Beyoncé, J Cole and Travis Scott each being nominated for four awards.

Cardi B is nominated twice under the Best Collaboration category for her singles Please M,e alongside Bruno Mars, and I Like It, featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin. She is also nominated twice under the Video of the Year category for the music videos of her singles Money and Please Me, alongside Bruno Mars. Cardi B is also nominated under the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, the Coca-Cola Viewers Choice Award and Album of the Year categories, the latter being for her hit debut album Invasion of Privacy.

Drake rivals Cardi B for Video of the Year for his Nice For What music video as well as in the Viewers Choice category for his single In My Feelings. Aside from this, he boasts nominations under Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for Sicko Mode with Travis Scott.

Beyoncé is nominated under the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category in her personal capacity. She is then nominated alongside husband Jay-Z, collectively known as The Carters, under Best Group, Video of the Year for their Apesh*t music video and Album of the Year for Everything is Love.

BET Head of Programming, Connie Orlando, made a statement regarding the Awards on Friday, 17 May 2019, stating that they are “committed to continuing to create the unforgettable moments that have made the BET Awards the preeminent celebration of black culture.”
