Published on

Latino superstar Daddy Yankee collaborated with pop sensation Katy Perry for the remix of his hit single, Con Calma, which was debuted live at the American Idol finale.

The vibrant performance took place on Sunday, 19 May 2019, at the American Idol’s studio In Los Angeles, California. During the finale, Daddy Yankee and Katy Perry wowed fans with the elaborated performance of the reggaeton’s hit song Con Calma, giving it a Spanish-English remix – which has not been done before. Perry opened the showcase adorning an exaggerated blond wig accompanied by an orange fringed dress. Daddy Yankee then appeared behind her, dressed in a black, yellow and beige trenched coat, as he introduced the original chorus of the song.

Large green screens draping the stage, with quirky graphics showcasing a spillage of liquids, appeared on either side of the singers as they performed. Dancers then joined Perry, dressed in all pink ensembles, and performed a routine in front of the enlarged graphics which showed the lyrics of the song. Daddy Yankee reappeared with his own squad of dancers, before collectively performing with Perry for the closing chorus.

Both artists teased the performance on social media on Friday, 17 May 2019, revealing a promotional video of the pair. Katy Perry captioned the video, “Not like you needed ANOTHER excuse to watch the GRANDE FINALE on Sunday… but here’s one anyway. Hope your couch is ready for some poom poom shakin’”

The official live performance was published on YouTube on Sunday, 19 May 2019, and has amassed well over 900 000 views since its release.
