DJ Black Coffee has revealed that he is the cover star for the October issue of GQ South Africa. The award-winning DJ took to Instagram to post an image of the cover and encouraged his fans to be on the lookout for it. Black Coffee is currently in Ibiza and will be playing at Hi Ibiza this coming Saturday, 29 September 2018.
Black Coffee broke into the music industry in 2005 when he remixed the late Hugh Masekela’s popular hit ‘Stimela.’ He has since gone on to establish himself as one of the industry greats across the globe, with a residency in Ibiza.
In an interview published by Billboard magazine on Wednesday, 20 June 2018, he noted that although he has achieved worldwide success in his personal capacity, he has his sights set on starting a school for artists in the greater Johannesburg area.
“We’ve been working on building a music, art and fashion school in a deserted part of Johannesburg, as a collaboration between myself and fellow South African artists Nelson Makamo and clothing designer Laduma Ngxokolo with the hope of turning the neighbourhood around,” he said. “Once the school project is complete, with our partners we endeavour to take this even further and establish an entire neighbourhood.”
The cover of the October issue of GQ was captured by well-known local visual artist Trevor Stuurman. The issue is available in stores now.
