DJ Fresh releases a formal statement and makes Newzroom Afrika debut

DJ Fresh released a formal statement on Monday, 8 July 2019, on his Metro FM suspension and announced his debut appearance on Newzroom Afrika, DStv channel 405.

Veteran media personality, DJ Fresh, has kept fans guessing about his future with his long-standing radio hosting job on Metro FM’s breakfast show, Fresh Breakfast. On Monday, 8 July 2019, the DJ released a formal statement about the conditions of his suspension and surprised fans when he announced that he would be joining the Newzroom Afrika breakfast show team as of Tuesday, 9 July 2019.

After a listener reported DJ Fresh to the BCCSA for reportedly using inappropriate language on air, the broadcaster allegedly asked the DJ to apologise on air and alleged that he had refused, hence his suspension was continued. In his caption to his formal statement, DJ Fresh wrote, “Contrary to the disinformation being deliberately spread, I actually offered to apologize unreservedly…. TWO WEEKS AGO!”

The statement released by Metro FM details that the ‘Big Dawg’s’ suspension was meant to end on Monday, 15 July 2019, after three more weeks were added to his suspension after he allegedly failed to meet the condition of his early return. However, it is still uncertain if he will be back on air on Monday, as DJ Fresh and his team are still waiting for confirmation from the public broadcaster.

However, on the same day, DJ Fresh gave his fans good news when he announced that he would be co-hosting the popular morning news show on Newzroom Afrika, Breaking Dawn, with Sizwe Dhlomo and Gugulethu Mhlungu.

Before starting the show, DJ Fresh posted a selfie with the entire team on his first day. Fans took to Twitter to celebrate the announcement, considering the suspension a blessing because not only would they hear DJ Fresh’s voice but see him too, with his reported new job. During his first appearance, the show trended on Twitter as the third most tagged trend, with his breakfast show fourth on the trends list.
