DJ Fresh set to address allegations made against him

DJ Fresh has released a video stating that he will address the sexual misconduct allegations that have been levied against him on social media.

On Sunday, 8 September 2019, Thato Sikwane, popularly known as DJ Fresh, posted a series of videos partying with friend and alleged abuser, Euphonik. Social media users used the comments section of the first video posted to suggest that the reason the two personalities are friends is because they have been both accused of sexual misconduct.

On Wednesday, 4 September 2019, DJ Fresh had taken to social media to try and implore African rappers, AKA and Burna Boy, to make amends after their social media brawl. DJ Fresh posted a thread asking the two to reconcile rather than forge a greater divide between South Africans and Nigerians.

In the comments section of the post, a social media user posted screenshots from the Am I Next Survivors SA account, which saw an anonymous social media user accusing DJ Fresh of rape. This then saw people continually asking him to respond to the accusations.

On Monday, 9 September 2019, DJ Fresh posted the first part of a series of videos that will be addressing the allegations made against him. The video starts with him saying, “There have been very serious, and spurious allegations made against me on social media. I’ll be addressing all those today, if not tomorrow…And also there have been pod shots indirectly directed at me by an ex of mine and this has been consistent for the last, probably 17/ 18 years…”

He continues by stating that in the past, he had chosen not to address them; however, he now feels that it is imperative to do so.  He ends the video promising the release of the second part of the video or written statement addressing all the allegations.

Social media had split reactions to the video, with one social media user writing, “Woke Twitter feminists will say you’re playing victim by explaining or defending yourself in these allegations.” Another stated, “We [do not] want a statement, all we [want to] know is [if you] did or didn’t do it.”
