DJ Maphorisa x Kabza De Small EP Scorpion Kings

DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small unveiled their joint project, an EP called Scorpion Kings, on Monday, 27 May 2019.

DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small have been teasing fans about their upcoming joint musical project since Friday, 3 May 2019. The pair released the teaser video of their first joint single, Scorpion Kings featuring vocalist Kaybee on their social media pages. The video was of a sandstorm with the camera focused on a single pyramid while the song played as the video’s soundtrack.

The single was then released on Friday, 17 May 2019. Scorpion Kings gave fans a preview of what the two artists would produce sonically when they work together. Kabza De Small, who is one of the pioneers of amapiano music, and DJ Maphorisa, who has risen to fame for his versatile musical ability as a producer and DJ, fused amapiano with deep house and afro-beats to produce their first single.

Following that release, on Monday, 27 May 2019, the duo officially debuted their  eight-track EP called Scorpion Kings, making it exclusively available on SoundCloud. The EP, similarly to the first single they released, merged the sounds of amapiano with gqom, deep house and afro-beats.

Scorpion Kings also features a number of popular artists. Some of the most notable features are Samthing Soweto on the first track, Amatombazane, Dladla Mshunqisi and Professor on the third track, Udriver, and popular vocalist Nokwazi worked with the duo and Virgo Deep on the last track called Vula Vala.

The duo took the title of their joint EP literally with producing its cover art, which features a scorpion with a crown sitting on its tail. The DJs are yet to announce when the EP will be made widely available across all major digital music platforms.
