DJ Maphorisa defensive over suggestions that Amapiano is fizzling out due to COVID-19

DJ Maphorisa promises to donate money to family of missing girl, based on retweets received

Leading Amapiano producer, DJ Maphorisa told a social media follower to stop talking about his musical duo, Scorpion Kings.

On Thursday, 23 April 2020, DJ Maphorisa responded to a social media user, saying the user should stop talking about him and Scorpion Kings partner, Kabza De Small. This was in response to a comment suggesting that the coronavirus pandemic and South Africa’s current lockdown is responsible for the Amapiano music genre losing its dominance in South Africa, after dominating much of the local music scene for the better part of 2019. The social media user expressed disapproval of both the music duo and the music genre, claiming to be “tired” of the Scorpion Kings’ multiple releases.

The post by the social media user and DJ Maphorisa’s response invited comments from other social media users, with some also taking issue with the many music releases from the Scorpion Kings stable, and by extension DJ Maphorisa’s recording label, BlaqBoy Music. Earlier this month, DJ Maphorisa attempted to make South African music history by when he released six new projects in just under 24-hours, including his latest solo EP, Madumane.
