DJ Maphorisa suggests boxing matches are attempts to make up for lack of hits

DJ Maphorisa took to Twitter to suggest that the use of celebrity boxing matches to spark conversation is due to a lack of hits from some of the leading South African musicians.

DJ Maphorisa took to Twitter on Tuesday, 25 May 2021, to suggest that some of the leading South African musicians are relying on celebrity boxing matches to remain relevant because they cannot make hit singles anymore. The post was in reference to the excitement sparked by Cassper Nyovest for substituting AKA with Prince Kaybee for the previously promoted celebrity boxing match.

DJ Maphorisa’s post was supported by some of his followers. Prince Kaybee recently released his fourth studio album, The 4th Republic, which was welcomed by his fans. However, it is arguable whether the album has a hit track like his previous albums had.

Similarly, Nyovest has released two singles from his upcoming amapiano-influenced album. The singles trended on the day of their release, however, they have not had the expected reach and acclaim. Therefore, some Twitter users suggested that DJ Maphorisa tag the people alleged to have been referenced in the post.
