DJ Tira’s vaccination endorsement sparks backlash

Published on

DJ Tira went ahead and got vaccinated ahead of December, after facing backlash for his supposedly tone-deaf tweet, which has since been deleted.

DJ Tira took to Twitter on Tuesday, 27 July 2021, to share a video of himself getting his vaccination shot. In the caption to the post, the Afrotainment frontman continued to encourage the masses to get vaccinated ahead of December. The post was an arguably less tone-deaf post than the one which he had to delete after facing backlash.

This is as the tweet in question wrote, ‘Fact Durban Rocks December 2021. No vaccine card. No entry.” The post drew criticism, as it continued to allude to DJ Tira’s continued alleged self-profiting patriotism. Critics highlighted how the producer-DJ has been silent on the matter of the Phoenix Massacre. Moreover, the DJ was also silent on the unrest, which stemmed from his home province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

However, this is not the first time that DJ Tira has been called out for his alleged self-profiting activism. Earlier this year, DJ Tira and other KZN promoters, DJs and musicians attempted to block a national highway, due to the restrictions which hindered them from making money. Reactions to the protest action were polarised due to the belief of the continued tone-deaf and biased activism exhibited by artists like DJ Tira.
