Dladla Mshunqisi’s participation in the protest action on the N3 highway in Durban has prompted much conversation on Twitter, with users providing humorous commentary on the situation.
Dladla Mshunqisi was part of the protest action by Durban-based artists and event organisers, calling for 70 percent capacity at events, on Wednesday, 2 September 2020. The initially peaceful protest action turned violent when police opened fire on the protesters, this after they blocked off the N3 highway and created a block party on the road.
One of the videos that have been circulating of the protest action is of Dladla Mshunqisi running as the police opened fire. Twitter users shared the video with reactions that brought humour to the grave situation.
Dladla Mshunqisi sparked comments that labelled him as a “marathon runner,” amongst other things. The protest sought to highlight the negative impact of the lockdown restrictions on artists and event organisers, as many generate their primary income from events and performances.
