Does Naruto become Hokage?

Naruto does eventually become Hokage, in succession to his team leader, Kakashi, and becoming the Seventh Hokage.

For anime aficionados or simply fans who are part of the Naruto cult following, the premise of the first two instalments of the series is one that is all too familiar. For 15 years, viewers watched as protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki, transitioned from village reject to a pillar of strength in his community.

Moreover, they watched as the premise of the first two instalments played out until Naruto finally achieved his dream of becoming the Seventh Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.

Who is Naruto Uzumaki?

Naruto Uzumaki is one of the main characters of the popular anime manga franchise, Naruto. He was the protagonist of the first two series, the first of which is Naruto, which premiered in 2002, and the premise  was, “Naruto Uzumaki, a mischievous adolescent ninja, struggles as he searches for recognition and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the village’s leader and strongest ninja.”

He then went on to front the 2007 second instalment, Naruto: Shippuden, premised, “Naruto Uzumaki, is a loud, hyperactive, adolescent ninja who constantly searches for approval and recognition, as well as to become Hokage, who is acknowledged as the leader and strongest of all ninja in the village.”

Does Naruto become Hokage?

Unfortunately, fans of the anime manga series that only religiously watched the television version of Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, may never get to see Naruto Uzumaki become a Hokage.

This is because Naruto: Shippuden, which concluded in 2017, ended after the Fourth Great Ninja War and the great battle between Naruto and the main antagonist and anti-hero, Sasuke Uchiha.

After the battle, they each lose a limb, which affirms that they are best friends, and they are equally the most powerful ninjas in the world by the end of Naruto: Shippuden.

Naruto’s course towards becoming the Seventh Hokage is set and eventually happens before the introduction of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. While Naruto did intend on becoming the Sixth Hokage, his Team 7 mentor, Kakashi was instated as the Sixth Hokage instead.

What comes after Naruto: Shippuden?

Following the 10-year run of Naruto: Shippuden, the universe expanded further with the introduction of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The series first premiered in 2017 and was created by the same creators of the first two instalments. However, it is the premise that changed, as it was:

“Son of Naruto Uzumaki, Boruto, follows his father’s footsteps along with his friends to become (a) great ninja. Throughout all their adventures, Boruto is determined to make his mark in the ninja world and live outside of his father’s shadow.”

Who will be the Eighth Hokage?

Currently, it is unknown who will become the Eighth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.

Primarily because as much as the current series focus is on the second generation, with Naruto’s son as the protagonist of the series, it is still uncertain whether the Eighth Hokage will come from the first generation of the  franchise, similarly to how Kakashi became the Sixth Hokage, or the second.

Alternatively, it could be Sarada Uchiha, who, in Boruto, is the one who aspires to follow in Naruto’s steps, rather than her father, Sasuke.

Is Naruto on Hulu?

If you are looking to binge-watch Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, Hulu is the best option. Viewers can watch the first two instalments of the series from the universe on the platform. Moreover, Hulu offers both series with the option of English dubbing or English subtitles.

However, for a more immersive experience, it is advised that viewers binge the entire series, including Boruto, from the leading anime manga online platform Crunchyroll. Similarly to Hulu, it also offers the option of watching the series either with English dubbing or English subtitles.

Final thoughts

Fans of the Naruto franchise, specifically the television version of the manga series, never get to see Naruto inducted as the Seventh Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. This is because his induction happens after the conclusion of Naruto: Shippuden and before Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

However, the silver lining is that we get to see Naruto as more than just a Hokage, but as a father and leader during the current run of Boruto. There are other losses and wins that the third instalment of the universe introduces, but that is for viewers to see when they watch it.
