Durban Fashion Fair celebrates seven years of fashion

The fashion event kicked off yesterday, 19 September 2018, at the Durban ICC and will run until Saturday, 22 September 2018, with key industry individuals making an appearance.

The city of Durban is hosting one of Africa’s leading fashion events, the Durban Fashion Fair. The event kicked off on Wednesday, 19 September 2018, and will run until Saturday, 22 September 2018, at the Durban International Convention Centre. Now in its seventh year, the Durban Fashion Fair is known as the platform that creates employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Speaking to local media on Thursday, 12 July 2018, the event’s Business Support, Tourism and Market Unit Programme Manager Sindi Shangase commented:

“There is so much talent on our doorstep. I believe it is up to us, and the team behind the Durban Fashion Fair, to offer these platforms and provide opportunities relating to the fashion industry. Most of our models who have participated in our past boot camps have already started their professional careers with top agencies from around the country and have participated in advertising campaigns for major clothing stores, appeared on various fashion show ramps around the country and TV commercials.”

“It makes us proud that the DFF has afforded these youngsters a platform to grow and we look forward to watching them take the modelling world by storm,” Shangase added.

Attendees can look forward to a panel discussion on Friday, 21 September 2018, which is focused on building a brand in the fashion industry. The discussion will be followed by a question and answer session facilitated by award-winning radio and television personality Anele Mdoda.

The AfroFuturism themed event includes workshops, shows, buyers’ lounges, as well as showcases from emerging local and international designers. Tickets for the event are still available on various online platforms.
