In a confirmation statement on Wednesday, 14 July 2021, e.tv began bidding farewell to the weeknight soapie, stating, “Rhythm City says goodbye to its loyal fans of 14 years on the 16th of July with an ending South Africa never expected. The show which started on the 9th of July 2007, will have aired a total number of 3 660 episodes by the 16th of July 2021.” The statement added, “The show has amassed over 4 million viewers daily in its tenure, and for that, we’d like to say ‘Dankie Mzansi for 14 years.’”
Now, as House of Zwide is set to air its first episode, the broadcaster has also shared a detailed description of the premise of the series. According to the statement, “House of Zwide is a show which contrasts two worlds and two families. The one is set in Tembisa where the Molapo family reside and the other is Rosebank where we find the well-off and fashionable Zwide family.”
Vusi Kunene plays the lead, Funani Zwide, and Winnie Ntshaba plays his wife, Faith Zwide. The statement further detailed the family dynamics, writing, “Londeka Mchunu plays Zanele Zwide, as Faith and Funani’s daughter.” Moreover, it completed the Zwide family tree by writing, “Nkosi Zwide, played by Wanda Zuma, is Funani and Faith’s son. Nkosi is Funani’s first-born son, the crown prince of the Zwide family.”
The show is set to premiere on Monday, 19 July 2021, on e.tv at 19:00.
