Rhythm City and eTV have announced that the long-running daily soapie will be coming to an end in July 2021, as part of a business decision taken by the channel.
Rhythm City and eTV issued a statement on Friday, 20 November 2020, announcing the end of the long-running series. The show is set to air its last episode on Friday, 16 July 2021, at 19:00, 14 years after its premiere in 2007. According to eTV, Rhythm City has been garnering consistent viewership over the years, and the decision to end the show was based on a business strategy that involves reviewing its on-air life cycle.
Marlon Davids, Managing Director at eTV, stated, “Rhythm City has secured its place in eTV’s history books and a legacy mark has been made. We want to extend our gratitude to the entire production staff, crew and cast for their incomparable craft.”
Rhythm City will be replaced by another local weeknight drama in 2021, adding to the channel’s popular productions, Durban Gen, Scandal! and Imbewu.
