CBS drama, Evil, has moved to Paramount Plus, as the creators stated that the move makes sense and they are not “bound into a 42-minute straitjacket” anymore.
Evil is an American supernatural drama television series produced by CBS Studios.
It follows forensic psychologist, Dr. Kristen Bouchard, played by Katja Herbers, who teams up with aspiring priest, David Acosta, played by Mike Colter, and tech expert, Ben Shakir, played by Aasif Mandvi, to investigate supernatural incidents that may be the work of demonic possessions.
The first season premiered on 26 September 2019. It was also released on Netflix in October 2020, instantly gaining popularity.
The show was renewed for a second season shortly after season one came to an end. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the filming of the second season of the show was delayed.
The production started filming in late November 2020, with the assumption that it would premiere in the first half of 2021.
The fans and the creators of the show, Robert and Michelle King, were expecting CBS to announce that the second season would only premiere in the second half of 2021, due to a delay in filming.
However, to everyone’s surprise, CBS announced in May 2021 that Evil would be moving to the streaming platform, Paramount Plus, following the success that the show gained on Netflix.
On 17 June 2021, Michelle King told Variety, “Well, we are sort of doing a streaming show on the network. Isn’t that peculiar?” The Kings also stated that the switch from CBS to Paramount Plus certainly makes sense. Moving to the streaming platform means that the show’s sexual undercurrents can be less subtextual, the characters can swear, and they are not, as Robert King described it, “bound into that 42-minute straitjacket.”
The creators received the news of the move to Paramount Plus while they were filming episode five of season two.
As a result, they re-added some scenes that they had initially cut from the first episodes and also re-edited some of the episodes to accommodate the new language and sexuality guidelines.
Michelle stated that they are now editing with Paramount Plus in mind, so that it feels like a streaming show. She added, “It has been tough to do sin with network standards.”
Season two of Evil premiered on 20 June 2021.
