Fired FM by Marawa, Fresh, Sbu and Touch begins to take form

It seems that Robert Marawa, DJ Fresh, Sbu and T’bo Touch are actually working on the contentious podcast, Fired FM, after their suggestive post.

Robert Marawa took to Twitter on Tuesday, 14 September 2021, to react to a post shared by DJ Fresh. The post in question was an image of him posing alongside DJ Sbu, T’bo Touch and DJ Fresh. The image reinvigorated the conversation about the leading veteran broadcasters starting their contentious podcast, Fired FM. The idea of the podcast was conceptualised by DJ Sbu. This was after Robert Marawa was fired, again, from the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Sbu had taken to Twitter to conceptualise a podcast channel which would consist of shows hosted by veterans who have either been fired or left their previous radio jobs with scandal at foot. Sbu had initially decided on an all-male lineup which would include the aforementioned broadcasters, along with Phat Joe and Gareth Cliff. Unlike the others, Phat Joe has yet to publicly indicate whether he is interested in working on a podcast of that format.

Therefore, in light of the latest post, it seems that the broadcasters are actually working on it. To date, there has been no confirmation or fixed timelines on the launch of Fired FM.

What happened to Robert Marawa at SABC?

In August 2021, Robert Marawa sent shockwaves through social media when he confirmed the SABC’s announcement that he would not be part of SABC Sports anymore. While it was suggested that he was fired, the broadcaster has only admitted to not renewing his three-year contract.

Is Vanessa Marawa related to Robert Marawa?

Vanessa and Robert Marawa are siblings. Robert is the only male amongst two sisters which, besides Vanessa, also includes Gugu Marawa. While Gugu is not a public personality, Vanessa is a television host, model and the winner of Survivor South Africa: Panama.

Why was Marawa dismissed?

Robert Marawa was behind the SABC Sports-endorsed Marawa Sports Worldwide (MSW). Ironically, Marawa allegedly received a WhatsApp message telling him that he need not return to his hosting job at the beginning of the new week the same day his show won 2021’s Best Sports Show: Commercial at the SA Radio Awards. Marawa being allegedly fired via WhatsApp is not surprising, considering that he alleged that the same thing happened in 2019 when he was fired from SuperSport.
