The latest episode of SABC 1’s Generations: The Legacy, which aired on Thursday, 26 July 2019, left viewers upset after racial remarks about black South Africans’ feeling entitled were made, as part of the racism storyline. When confronted by her kidnappers, Lerato was questioned about the ‘fees must fall’ movement and black South Africans blaming the white man for their shortcomings. The scene saw Lerato apologising on behalf of black South Africans for the unrest between black and white people in the current generation, which left the audience appalled.

Viewers took to social media to air their grievances with the storyline, with Thubelihle Mntungwa stating, “We have been oppressed for more than 100 years, so Mfundi is now putting white people on a platform to blame us for what happened in South Africa for the past 25 years??”, Puseletso Bushy shared those sentiments, commenting, “Generations The Legacy know very well that whites are not watching it. So what are you trying to do to us?”. Another viewer commented on the storyline as a whole, stating, “This racism storyline is such a trigger. It’s badly written and it’s actually doing more harm than it is educational. What a pity and waste of air time.”

The upcoming episode of Generations The Legacy sees Jack unnerved about what the sangoma reveals and Smanga receives a package but is horrified by what’s inside.
