Following the sexual assault claims that were made against lead actor Kevin Spacey, the show has distanced itself from him and has revealed his exit from the show.
Popular TV drama House of Cards has revealed the fate of Frank Underwood in its sixth and final season. The official account of the TV drama announced that the character, which is played by Kevin Spacey, will be killed off. Taking to Twitter, a video was posted in which the character of Claire Underwood, Frank’s wife, is seen addressing her husband but it is revealed shortly thereafter that she is talking to his tombstone.
Production of the sixth season was already underway when the show’s lead, Kevin Spacey, was accused of sexual misconduct, with many more alleged victims coming to light thereafter. Production of the show was temporarily put on hold but eventually, the decision was taken to cut all ties with Spacey.
The political drama’s lead actress and executive producer Robin Wright admits that the show was near cancellation but she fought to keep the series going for the last time.
“I believed we should finish,” Wright said. “I believed we should honour our commitment, to the people that loved the show, also – why quit?”
“They printed that it was ‘only’ 600 people out of work, but if you include security cops, shooting on location in Baltimore, everything, 2 500 people would have been out of a job and that’s not fair. To take that security away from those people… They didn’t do anything wrong,” she added.
Wright concluded by saying that she felt protective of the cast and crew, which is why she fought so hard.
