How AKA polarised reactions with confirmation of a return to music

AKA has confirmed that he is set to mark his live performance return this weekend, which polarised reactions in light of the lack of resolution on the Anele Tembe saga.

AKA took to Twitter on Wednesday, 4 August 2021, to confirm his return to live performances this coming weekend. The rapper did not share the name of the concert he is scheduled to perform at, possibly due to the pressure which might be placed on the promoter to reconsider their choice. This is as AKA is set to return to work while the matter of the circumstances of the passing of his customary wife, Anele “Nelli” Tembe has yet to be resolved.

In April 2021, AKA confirmed the tragic passing of Tembe, detailing that he will be taking time away from the spotlight to mourn. In May 2021, AKA intended his comeback to be with his live performance during the Nedbank Cup Final, at which he shared the stage with Prince Kaybee and Kamo Mphela. However, the performance opened a can of worms which has arguably changed the trajectory of his career.

A day after the performance, the allegations of emotional and physical abuse by AKA towards Tembe were raised. Subsequently, the lifestyle of the two was interrogated with additional allegations of substance abuse in the relationship being raised. All the aforementioned put into question the sequence of events which led to Tembe falling to her death in an assumed suicide case.

In June 2021, AKA took a hiatus from performing, stating that he was going to mourn the passing of Tembe and work on himself. It seems that the rapper is ready to return to music. This is despite a lack of public conclusion on the events surrounding Tembe’s passing. Moreover, with the family not having found peace with the matter, it has sparked much conversation.
