Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev’s relationship has been a thing of the past for close to a decade, and both actors are now in committed relationships.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder’s breakup in 2013 left fans devastated, as the on-screen couple had given them hope that their fictional love story could become a reality. The pair are best known for their iconic characters on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries. The pair played Elena and Damon, a couple which, despite all the odds that were stacked against them, was able to end up together. In reality, the actors begun a romantic relationship in 2010, and appeared to be just as in love as their characters. Nina and Ian kept their relationship out of the spotlight for the first year, however, as things began to get serious, they became more public.
The pair began attending red carpet events together and were often spotted in public, causing for fans to root for their relationship’s success. In 2013, it was confirmed that the pair had split, however, they still continued to play a couple on The Vampire Diaries for the following seasons.
Neither of them have officially addressed the reason for their split, however, it was rumoured that Nina was not willing to settle down, unlike Ian, who was ready to start a family. As the years went by, their commitment to the show allowed for them to remain friends, as they were often seen supporting one another at their respective events.
In 2015, Ian married fellow actress, Nikkie Reed, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder, in 2017. Ian and Nikkie have kept a low profile throughout their relationship, but have been vocal about their joint missions in philanthropy, which is a priority in their family.
Nina has been in a relationship with Shaun White since 2019, and the couple is still going strong. On Sunday, 14 February 2021, Nina shared a Valentine’s Day post dedicated to her boyfriend, captioning it, “My favourite snow cone flavour is White. Happy we got ‘stuck together’ last year and stuck it out. Happy Valentine’s Day to my quarantini in crime…”
