iCarly has been greenlighted for a reboot season on Paramount Plus, which will see the group navigating life in their twenties, nine years after the show was cancelled.
iCarly will be returning to screens in late 2021, after production house, Paramount Plus, confirmed that filming had commenced on Thursday, 18 March 2021.
The highly anticipated revival of the Nickelodeon was reported as a 13-episode season in December 2020, however, no further information was provided on the storyline or cast at the time.
On Thursday, Paramount Plus took to Twitter to reveal that original castmates, Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress, will be back for the new season, with Jennette McCurdy being the only one opting not to re-join the iconic show.
The streaming service also hinted at the storyline, which will see Carly and Fred attempting to navigate their lives in their mid-twenties, whilst juggling their careers and love.
The post stated, “Wake up the members of the nation! Filming has begun on a new show based on Nickelodeon’s iCarly, coming to Paramount Plus this summer! The 13-episode season follows Carly Shay and her friends as they navigate work, love and family in their twenties.”
Paramount Plus also welcomed two new cast members to the franchise, stating, “So excited to welcome to the cast, Laci Mosley as Harper, Carly’s roommate and best friend, and Jaidyn Triplett as Millicent, Freddie’s snarky and social media-savvy stepdaughter. Hope they like random dancing!”
Fans of the series were surprised to learn that Freddy would be married with a stepchild in the reboot, and expressed their eagerness to find out how he had moved on from Sam, played by Jeanette McCurdy.
On Saturday, 20 March 2021, Miranda shared an Instagram post with behind-the-scenes images from the set of the production. The actress was seen in a pink tutu, with a pug wearing green accessories also appearing in the post.
