Idols SA has moved to the top nine stage without an elimination, following the exit of contestant, Ithana, due to medical reasons.
Mzansi Magic’s Idols South Africa (SA) took to Twitter on Sunday, 19 September 2021, to confirm that Ithana, one of the top 10 contestants, withdrew from the competition. Considering that the announcement was made the day the show was set to air, it all came as a surprise to the general public. Prince Kaybee also marked his second Idols SA appearance this season as a guest judge.
In light of Ithana’s withdrawal, Idols SA released a statement that read, “Idols SA top 10 finalist, Ithana has withdrawn from the competition due to medical reasons. The 22-year-old will not participate in the highly anticipated Battle of the DJs performances this evening.” The statement went on to affirm that voting lines will be open for the public to vote for their favourite performances and contestants.
The decision to not replace Ithana means that in the coming week, the top nine will be wilted down to the top eight, negating the top 10 entirely.
