Idols SA’s Sunday night episode saw the top 16 being announced, with many of the fan favourites making it through to the live rounds.

Idols SA’s latest episode, which aired on Mzansi Magic on Sunday, 13 September 2020, saw the top 16 being chosen from the 31 remaining contestants. Resident judges, Somizi Mhlongo, Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams, announced who they believe has the entire package. The top 16 comprises; Ntokozo, Zama, Jerodine, Dee, Ndoni, Melanin, Bongi, Be, Qhawe, Ethan, Mr Music, Succedor, Zahn-Reece, Jooma, Brandon and Sonwabile. After being chosen, the top 16 collaborated on a music video for Beyoncé’s Freedom, featuring Kendrick Lamar.

Amongst the rejected contestants was guest judge, DJ Zinhle’s favourite performer, Matevhu, who had forgotten her lyrics during the final theatre auditions. Fans were disappointed by her rejection, but were excited by the fact that she was still given the proposition to work with DJ Zinhle. Matevhu stated, “Obviously I feel sad, although I kind of expected it because of my performance. I forgot the lyrics. I’ll keep on pushing. The good thing is DJ Zinhle said she wants to do a song with me, whether I win or not. So, at least it is a good opportunity.”
