Idols SA: Contestants enter the solo round of the competition

Sunday night’s episode of Idols SA saw the contestants deliver their solo performances, which left the judges divided on who would secure the coveted Top 16 positions.

The latest episode of Mzansi Magic’s Idols SA, which aired on Sunday, 11 August 2019, saw the contestants perform solo for the final round of theatre week. The Top 32 were made to choose their own songs, which they performed with a backing band in front of the judges and their fellow contestants. Social media has been abuzz with fans stating who their favourite singers are, with many contestants generating a large fan following.

Noticeably, viewers have expressed their love for twins Virginia and Viggy, whose individual talents have gotten overshined by the fact that they are twins. Amanda Mbele commented, “This has to be the most annoying thing ever. Now one might not go through because she is being compared to her twin. Like judge them as individuals also let South Africa decide.” Setu Lawu, however, explained that the comparisons are necessary, with, “Competition is about finding the best out of all of them, and in order to do that, we have to compare them. How will you choose who to vote for if you won’t compare?”.

The next round of the competition will see the judges choose the Top 16 who will move on to the live performances. Once at the live performance stage, viewers will be able to cast their votes each week for their favourite contestant, ultimately leading to the crowning of 2019’s Idols SA winner.

Idols SA airs on Sundays at 17:30 on Mzansi Magic, DStv channel 161.
