Black Adam being the 7th wizard is still up for debate as DCEU fans wait for subsequent Shazam! movies to be released for the mystery to be solved.
Shazam! is a DC Extended Universe movie which was released in 2019. The movie is premised on an orphan, Billy Batson, who is in search of his mother when he is granted superhuman powers by Wizard Shazam. Billy, in turn, gives powers to five of his friends.
The premise spurred the question pertaining to who the seventh wizard is as there are seven thrones at the Rock of Eternity.
As such, in light of the upcoming Black Adam movie, in which Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will play Black Adam, it has led to the belief that he is the seventh wizard, which has yet to be confirmed filmically.

Who are the six current Shazam wizards?
Shazam! is a continuation by DC to create more youthful and lighter DCEU movies which was started with the release of Wonder Woman.
In the film, Billy Batson gets his superpowers from Wizard Shazam, and his most powerful power is the ability to transfer his powers to the other humans who will occupy the remaining seats at the Rock of Eternity.
Billy opts to transfer his powers to his orphan friends, which includes Freddy, Darla, Mary, Eugene, and Pedro. This turned the six wizards into The Shazam Family, with only a single seat left vacant.
Is Black Adam the 7th wizard?
Prior to the 2019 premiere of Shazam! the news of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson being cast as the DCEU’s Black Adam was already made public.
The news displayed how much DC was investing in growing its DCEU in the hopes of eventually seeing the two worlds of the DC Universe and DC Extended Universe merge with Johnson’s Black Adam superhero, as his convoluted history would allow for the convergence.
Initially, Johnson was reportedly meant to play the title protagonist in Shazam!, but it was then announced that Johnson would feature in his own standalone film, which, after a number of delays, will be released on Friday, 21 October 2022. Black Adam will play more of an anti-hero than a villain in the upcoming movie.
This fact suggests that if he was featured in Shazam! first, the matter of his relation to Shazam and whether or not he is the first technically, or the seventh wizard in the chronology of the movie, would have had to be explained.
This is as Teth-Adam, the son of the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses ll, was the first individual to whom Wizard Shazam gave his powers and he was called Mighty Adam.
But after being corrupted by Shazam’s daughter, Blaze, his powers were stripped and he was confined for 5 000 years, which earned him the name Black Adam.
This has left many questioning whether Black Adam is the seventh wizard, which remains unanswered.
If Black Adam is not the 7th wizard, who is?
In Shazam!, Billy Batson only transferred his powers to five other people, which totalled six wizards occupying the seven thrones at the Rock of Eternity.
Some people believe that Black Adam might be the seventh, but there are those that are holding onto another theory, which is that Billy has not found the right person to be the seventh wizard.
Moreover, since Wizard Shazam died in the first movie, he cannot provide guidance to who Billy can choose as the seventh wizard or confirm that there already is a seventh wizard.
Why Black Adam might not be the 7th wizard
The fact that Wizard Shazam gave Teth-Adam and Billy Batson their Black Adam and Shazam powers, is one of the reasons that many believe that Teth-Adam is the seventh wizard.
But this fact may just explain their connection to each other which will eventually lead to their showdown later in the DCEU films.
However, there are distinct differences between Black Adam and the Shazam family, such as the colour of their suits, as Black Adam has a black Shazam suit while the Shazam family has the red suits.
Moreover, the Shazam family draws their superpowers from Greek gods, while Black Adam’s superpowers are from Egyptian gods.
Will Black Adam confirm that Black Adam is the seventh wizard?
It seems unlikely that Black Adam will provide conclusive answers to whether Black Adam is the missing seventh wizard in Shazam! or not.
This is as the movie is touted as his origin story and Johnson is reportedly meant to be part of the third instalment in the DCEU’s series of Shazam! movies.
Hence, it may be another few years until the matter is answered as the cast of Shazam!, specifically Shazam, played by Zachary Levi, is not set to appear in the upcoming Black Adam origin story movie.
