Amazon Prime does offer a seven-day free trial for HBO Max, but after this trial period is over, a $14.99 subscription fee will have to be paid.
HBO Max is one of the most popular streaming platforms because of its varied catalogue of content.
Recently, HBO Max was re-introduced as an add-on for Amazon Prime Video Channels, but even though a free seven-day trial is offered, HBO Max will not be free after this trial period is completed.
Is HBO Max really worth it?
The HBO Max streaming platform quickly grew to be one of the most popular on-demand streaming services on the market after its launch in 2020. The platform now has over 75 million subscribers across the world.
This growth can be attributed to the wide range of content that the platform offers. This includes HBO original content, the entire HBO catalogue, the DC Comics series, Warner Bros. shows, movies and more, which makes the subscription fee worth it for most subscribers.
Is HBO Max free with Amazon Prime?
After HBO Max ended their own seven-day free trial service for new subscribers, many people have been wondering how they can test out HBO Max for free.
Fortunately, after HBO Max was initially dropped from Amazon Prime in 2021, Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon signed a new deal, and HBO Max is now available on Amazon Prime Video Channels again.
This means that if you are an Amazon Prime member, you will once again be able to add HBO Max as a channel add-on through the Amazon Prime Video application or by visiting the HBO Max homepage.
Fortunately, Amazon Prime is offering a special seven-day free trial of the HBO Max add-on so that the public can test out the platform. Although, when this trial period has elapsed, you will need to pay $14.99 every month as a subscription fee.
This means that even though this setup allows you to access all of your Amazon Prime Video content and HBO Max content in one place, only the trial version of HBO Max is free and you need to pay to access this content after the first week.
This recurring subscription fee will be billed through your Amazon Prime account, and you will be able to cancel your subscription to HBO Max at any time.
As an additional benefit, subscribing to HBO Max through Amazon Prime also ensures that you will have access to the combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service that is expected to launch in the spring of this year.

Why is HBO Max back on Amazon Prime Video Channels after being dropped?
Initially, HBO Max was dropped from Prime Video when Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon could not agree on a new contract. However, the two entities recently agreed to a new multiyear deal.
The precise details of this deal have not been disclosed. Chances are that Amazon Prime Video’s new status as the most popular subscription-based streaming service in the United States in 2022, as well as the negative impact of the split on HBO Max’s subscription figures, all contributed to the finalisation of the agreement.
What is the combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service?
One of the biggest advantages that subscribers will get when adding HBO Max to their Amazon Prime Video Channels, aside from the free trial period, is the fact that this subscription will also be automatically migrated to the new HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service when it launches in 2023.
Warner Bros. Discovery has not yet released any details about subscribers on other platforms being migrated in this way when this new streaming service, which is likely to be called “Max” launches in 2023. This is why it is so beneficial.
What can you watch with an HBO Max subscription?
HBO Max does not come for free with an Amazon Prime membership after the trial period has ended.
However, many people who have subscribed to the platform in the past feel like the $14.99 per month subscription fee in addition to the $14.99 per month or $139 per year Amazon Prime membership fee for the ad-free version of the platform’s content is well worth it, especially for the variety of content that HBO Max offers.
The shows in the HBO Max catalogue include award-winning HBO Max Originals like:
- The Flight Attendant
- Our Flag Means Death
- Gossip Girl
- Selena + Chef
- The White Lotus
- House of the Dragon
This catalogue also includes all of HBO’s programming from the past, present, and future. Some of these are the DC Comics shows, Studio Ghibli, Cartoon Network, Looney Tunes, TCM (Turner Classic Movies), and several Warner Bros. films and shows.
