Izangoma Zodumo star, Makgotso “Gogo Maweni” Makopo, discussed her expectations for the premiere of the show on Mzansi Magic, which may be met with criticism and scepticism.
Izangoma Zodumo’s Makgotso “Gogo Maweni” Makopo will star alongside Prudence “Ngwe” Magagula on Mzansi Magic’s upcoming reality show, which is set to premiere on Wednesday, 7 October 2020. The series will follow the traditional healers as they continue to lead a modern life, whilst acknowledging their ancestral calling.
In an interview with JustNje on Tuesday, 6 October 2020, Makgotso spoke about the upcoming reality show, which she believes will showcase that traditional healers are also normal people as well. Following the show’s premiere on 1 Magic on Saturday, 3 October 2020, she claimed that she was ridiculed for showcasing traditional healing on television, as many believe that it is sacred and should not be televised.
Makgotso stated, “I want people to know that I take my traditional healing seriously. It took me a long time to get to where I am traditionally. I did not think I would go to New York to study clinical psychology and come back to South Africa to sit [here] and advise people.”
She also explained that she has lost a lot of friends since accepting her calling, as they were under the impression that she would be able to bewitch them. She hopes the show will clarify that although they have the ability to practice witchcraft, they don’t.
