Killing Eve’s season four, episode six saw Villanelle almost shot, but in the following episode it was revealed that the title character survived, through the help of Eve.
Killing Eve is the hit BBC One original drama series which has been a popular watch since its premiere in 2018. Now the series is counting down its final episodes, as the fourth season marks the series finale of the hit show.
As a result, fans thought episode six, Oh Goodie, I’m A Winner, marked what would have been the surprising death of title character Villanelle, after she was shot with an arrow by a hit-archer.
However, the following episode quickly dispelled these fears as not only was Villanelle not dead, but she was not even fatally wounded.
What is Killing Eve?
Killing Eve is the BBC original series based on the series of novels by author, Luke Jennings, under the same name. The series consists of four novels, namely, Codename Villanelle, Villanelle: Hollowpoint, Villanelle: Shanghai, and Odessa.
The series was created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the premise is, “After a series of events, the lives of a security operative and an assassin become inextricably linked.”
In the title roles are Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh as Eve, and Jodie Comer as Villanelle. Similarly to the number of novels in the book series, the television series is set to end with the current fourth season.
Killing Eve: Is Villanelle dead?
Season four of Killing Eve has focused on Eve working her way to finding the original members of The Twelve.
Moreover, this season has seen Eve and Helene play tit for tat, which came to a head in episode six, titled Oh Goodie, I’m A Winner. First Eve kidnapped Helene’s daughter and, in turn, Helene exacted her revenge with the cliffhanger of the episode.
Eve was forced to watch as Villanelle was shot down by a hit-archer, and fans were left wondering if she would make it.
The reveal happens within 10 minutes of the latest episode titled Making Dead Things Look Alive, after Eve drags Villanelle to a safe room where Konstantin’s new assassin-in-training, Pam, tends to her.
After a long nap, Villanelle is as good as new. The reveal was possibly anti-climactic, considering how long it took to resolve the matter, but it did provide another emotionally intense moment as the series counts down to its finale episode.
How many episodes are in Killing Eve season four?
In March 2021, it was announced that the fourth season of Killing Eve would be the last of the BBC original series.
When the series started airing its final season in February 2022, it confirmed that it would consist of eight episodes, as has been the tradition of the series throughout its four-season run.
However, fans were seemingly hoping for more episodes, as has been the current trend with popular series such as Ozark, Better Call Saul, and Yellowstone (although season five has not been confirmed as the last).
These series have all extended their latest and last seasons, for the most part, breaking the seasons into two parts – each with an equal number of episodes.
Why is Killing Eve cancelled?
Killing Eve is coming to end with its current season four. Considering that the BBC One series is still popular with an avid following, the series coming to an comes as a surprise.
The channel affirmed that the decision was made by the production team rather than the channel, when AMC Networks president of originals, Dan McDermott, was quoted as stating:
“Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant adaptation of the source material, the unforgettable characters are given life by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and the entire cast, along with our partners at Sid Gentle Films, have delivered a one-of-a-kind roller-coaster ride that has taken our breath away.”
Therefore, it suggests that the decision was made in correspondence with the series of books which also conclude after four novels.
Will there be Killing Eve spin–offs?
While Killing Eve is coming to an end, it does seem that the franchise of the thrilling series may be expanded in time.
It is believed that AMC Networks is working closely with Sid Gentle Films in order to develop spin-offs that will be based on some of the characters that featured in the series.
There has been no official word on which characters these might be, but since the story introduced Pam, she might be an option as her story is fairly unknown.
Alternatively, it could focus on a young Carolyn, considering the reveals about the character’s history in the last few episodes of season four. Moreover, this would mean possible appearances from Konstantin, Villanelle, and possibly Eve.
Killing Eve is set to end on Sunday, 10 April 2022, with season four’s final episode. Fans of the show have been enthralled throughout the season with multiple cliffhangers which have left viewers wondering about the fate of out title characters.
One of these cliffhangers was in episode six, which left fans wondering if Villanelle would live after being shot by an arrow in the shoulder.
However, within 10 minutes of episode seven, her fate was revealed and she not only survived, but she was back up on her feet like nothing had happened.
