King Monada’s ‘Malwedhe’ nominated for African Song Of The Year

King Monada is one of six African musicians to be nominated for a HiPipo Music Award in the category and is up against the likes of Diamond Platnumz and Davido.

Singer, King Monada, has on Tuesday, 15 January 2019, asked fans to vote for ‘Malwedhe’ as Africa Song Of The Year.

The singer posted the link on his Facebook page, asking fans to place their votes by selecting his name from the list of nominees. If he gets enough votes, he could see himself winning a HiPipo Music Award. The full list of nominees for all categories was released between Wednesday, 2 January 2019, and Friday, 4 January 2019.

Other songs nominated for the prestigious award include Davido’s ‘Assurance’ and ‘African Beauty’ by Diamond Platnumz featuring Omarion. Six songs in total were nominated for the award. The singer, whose real name is Khutso Kgale, has some tough competition to beat as fellow nominee, Diamond Platnumz, won in the category last year with his song ‘Marry You’ featuring Ne-Yo.

‘Malwedhe’ took South Africa by storm leading up to the 2018 festive season and became one of the most popular songs of the year. The song even spawned the popular Idibala dance move, which is named after a lyric from the song. King Monada is also the man behind the 2016 mega-hit, ‘Ska Bhora Moreki’.

The awards show will take place on Saturday, 16 March 2019, at the Kampala Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda. HiPipo CEO, Innocent Kawooya, said this year’s award show would be extra special. “The 8th edition of the prestigious HiPipo Music Awards comes with a theme, ‘#WeTheBest’ and steps further to celebrate Africa’s Crème de La Crème with Africa’s Number 1 Award Category.”
