Kings of Jo’burg has officially premiered on Netflix South Africa, detailing how the notorious Masire brothers’ ruthless behaviour leads them to much trouble in the city.
Kings of Jo’burg premiered on Netflix South Africa today, 4 December 2020, as confirmed in an Instagram post by Shona Ferguson. The series, produced by Ferguson Films, has been in development for over two years and, with production having concluded in early 2020, fans of the actor and producer were left wondering if the series would ever make it to air.
In early November 2020, Ferguson Films surprised fans with the news that the series would be releasing exclusively on Netflix, making it one of the few original South African productions on the international streaming platform.
Kings of Jo’burg centres around the underhanded business world of Johannesburg, which comprises vengeance, violence and many types of illegal activities. The storyline focuses on Simon “Vader” Masire, a member of the prominent gang, the KOJ Brotherhood. As he leads the family business to success, things get complicated when his young brother, Mogomotsi “Mo” Masire, returns from jail and is forced to choose between honouring his family’s legacy or respecting his brother’s decision to leave that life behind.
