Published on

Kurt Darren and Soweto Gospel Choir have released The South African Songbook in its entirety, after first releasing two singles from their collaborative collection of local classics.

Kurt Darren and Soweto Gospel Choir made their joint album, The South African Songbook, available on Friday, 17 July 2020. The project hears the two celebrated musical entities collaborating on a 13-track album of their renditions of some of the most iconic South African classics.

To launch the album’s pre-order sales in early June, the first single that was released was Vul’indlela. The song is one of the late Brenda Fassie’s classics, and Kurt Darren and the choir put their own lively spin to the song. The second single from the album was Vicky Sampson’s career-defining song, My African Dream.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Ndihambe Nawe (Kom Bietjie Hier), Pata Pata, Special Star, Jabulani, Loslappie, Impi and Shosholoza are just some of the other notable classics covered on the album.

The album is available for purchase on Apple Music.
