Lance James and Ricus Nel set to perform at Bakgat Country Opskop 2019

South Africa’s finest country music superstars appear on one line-up at Bakgat Country Opskop 2019, set to take place on Sunday, 2 June 2019.

In its seventh installment, Bakgat Country Opskop is gearing up for another star-studded, action-filled afternoon. The event is due to take place at GrandWest’s Grand Arena in Cape Town on Sunday, 2 June 2019, beginning at 15:00.

Bakgat highlights both up-and-coming and legendary Afrikaans performers. Some notable acts on the line-up include Steve Hofmeyr, Juanita Du Plessis, Tarryn Lamb, Demi-Lee Moore, Lance James, Tommy Dell and Brandon Oberholzer, amongst many more.

This year’s Bakgat Country Opskop is dedicated to celebrating legendary performer Lance James’  eightieth birthday. Lance, or ‘Big Daddy’, is a notable member of the country music community, winning over 60 awards with more than 100 album credits. He is known for songs like Dankie, Heaven Is My Woman’s Love and Ballad Of The Green Berets.

Steve Hofmeyr, one of South Africa’s biggest and most controversial celebrities, is sure to pull a massive crowd. Steve’s career took off in 1997 when he released his debut album called You Don’t Bring Me Flowers with Belgian songstress Dana Winner. Following this, he won SAMA awards for Best Selling South African Artist consecutively in 2003 and 2004.

East London-born Tommy Dell is another legend on the South African music scene, crossing into international waters in the 80s to perform at the International Country Fanfare show in Nashville, Tennessee. He is known for hits like Oh Lord It’s Hard To Be Humble and Teddy Bear.
