Lawrence Maleka confirmed that he has taken a break from The River, however, the banter and engagement confirmed his imminent return.
Lawrence Maleka took to Twitter on Sunday, 24 October 2021, to confirm that he is currently on a sabbatical from his beloved role as Zolani on The River. The matter of his future in the world of the story was hinged on the intense storyline of him turning into a murderer, after he found out that his wife was sexually assaulted. With the storyline not playing out an exit or loophole, viewers feared for Maleka’s future on the show.
As a result of this, social media users suggested that if he were to leave, they would either boycott the show or completely downgrade their package deal from MultiChoice to not include 1Magic. However, Maleka confirmed that he is only on a hiatus and is set to return to reprise his role. Now, the question is, how long is his hiatus set to last for?
During his hiatus, Maleka has already managed to be the host of SABC 1’s Too Hot To Be Single and the co-host of the twenty-seventh annual South African Music Awards. In the world of the story, Zolani is set to be in prison for four years. However, fans are hoping that he returns within a few months through some intervention by lead character, Lindiwe Dikana.
This week begins to mark a shift in the storylines on the show, both in Refilwe and within the Dikana mansion. The River airs every weeknight on 1Magic, DStv channel 103, at 20:00.
