The Afrikaans movie, Liewe Lisa, is perfectly apt for its Valentine’s Day release on Thursday, 14 February 2019.
Hendrik Cronje takes on the role of director and lead actor in his debut film, which co-stars Elani Dekker. The film tells the story of Daniel, a recent graduate who is about to embark on his career as a writer. In an attempt to find a little excitement, he engages in an illegitimate relationship with an influential business man’s wife.
Considering the consequences, Daniel ends the relationship. He then unexpectedly meets Lisa, the daughter of the same businessman. His mistakes are eventually revealed, leaving Daniel to abandon his current life and opt for a most simplistic way of life.
Upon meeting a simple fisherman named Tom, Daniel learns about life and love whilst the fisherman helps him achieve his true potential in life – writing, which is his one true love.
The storyline, which was also written by Cronje, is based on the 1964 film, The Graduate.
Liewe Lisa is not only Cronje’s first production, but is also the inspiration behind the start of his new production company, Kompanjie Stories. The production company aims to bring true and original story-based films to the Afrikaans market.
Liewe Lisa will be released on Thursday, 14 February 2019, at selected Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro cinemas and will be available with English subtitles.
