Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish released her new single Wish You Were Gay on Tuesday, 5 February 2019.
The single begins with a slow and steady acoustic arrangement and progresses to a punchier instrumental. In an interview with Pop Buzz in July 2018, Eilish explained the real life events that inspired the slow and hard-hitting single. She stated that the song was written about a guy that was not interested in her. In an attempt to protect her feelings, she endlessly hoped for him to be gay, rather than admit that he was just not interested in her in particular.
Wish You Were Gay follows her recently released single Bury A Friend, both of which will appear on her upcoming album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which is scheduled to be released on Friday, 29 March 2019.
The audio release has received almost seven million views on YouTube, in under 24 hours.
The single is available for purchase on iTunes.
